Days 3 and 4...Twin Lakes

Day 3 was spent doing more of the same...
I love this picture of TJ and Papa getting in a last ditch effort at catching fish.
On our way home we went a different way and took the ferry across Lake Roosevelt.
Beautiful.

Again, the kids did a great job in the car.  We have been blessed with kids that enjoy the car, which makes all our road trips a whole lot easier.
We stopped at Fort Spokane and toured a little bit.  It was a fort to keep peace between the natives and the white folk in the late 1800s.  It then became an Indian Boarding School, and finally a tuberculosis sanatorium. It was super interesting and it had a lot of fun things for the kiddos.

These were cells that were used when soldiers got out of hand and for holding children when they ran away from the boarding school (so sad!)

Final family picture!

Day Two...Twin Lakes

Day two started off with what else...fishing on the lake.
When I was a little girl, I used to get SO SICK when we were fishing.  But thankfully I am fortunate enough to have grown out of that.  I could have spent ALL DAY on the boat.

This is the ridiculous view of Twin Lakes.

Ps 97:5-6
"The mountains melt like wax before the Lord,
before the Lord of all the earth.

 The heavens proclaim his righteousness,
and all the peoples see his glory."

TJ was a fisherman, but was NOT a fan of taking them off the hook.
Avarie and Papa got a little time on the peddle boat.

The evenings catch!

Day One Twin Lakes...

Tim's Uncle Royal has a lake house at Twin Lakes, near Inchelium, WA.  There is no cell service, or internet for that matter and so we were completely unplugged (sorry for the scare dad...note to self, when you leave on vacation, give your family a heads up).
We spent most of our time on the lake...riding the boat, playing near the shore, or fishing off the dock.  In fact, I don't think we did anything else. :)  It reminded me a lot of my childhood and the time we spent at Lake Chelan.  I was so thankful to be able to share that with my kids.  A huge THANK YOU goes to Uncle Royal and Aunt Kitty for their generosity!
Avarie told me that "from now on, I need a ponytail on the boat"

 Our trusty guide.

Royal and Kitty had this family of bears that sit outside the front door of the house.  Lylah LOVED these bears.  She would tell them "good night", "hello", and pretty much hold long conversations with these bears.  It was so very sweet.
TJ is a born fisherman.  He spent EVERY waking moment on the dock or begging Papa to take him on the peddle boat or the motor boat.  He ended the time there with 5 fish he caught on his own.

Avarie helped real in 4.  She loved the fishing, but was less enthused by the actual fish.
This bird... he would sit in the trees above the dock and wait...
The first fish that TJ caught as he was reeling in, this bird dive bombs his fish and TJ and the bird fight over who was taking that fish home.  NO JOKE!  TJ won, but that bird waited there all night for another fish to steal.
Papa showing off one of the many bass we caught.
Avarie's rendition of what the fish do when they get out of the water.
Nanny would sit up at the house and watch with Lylah.
TJ and Avarie's haul the first night.
TJ decided we should use 2 different chains after that to keep track of whose fish was whose.

Grand Coulee Dam.

We began our vacation with a LONG drive to the cabin we were staying at.  On our way we passed Grand Coulee, and the teacher in me, couldn't pass by the educational opportunity.  We were able to have a great discussion with the kids about the Missoula Floods and Grand Coulee Dam.  We had a great time!  Tim and I both LOVE to drive, and being able to drive through parts of Washington our kids haven't seen, and explain to them how things work, and God's hand in it...AMAZING!

While Parents are away.... Grammy spoils them rotten.

My mom...not only did she provide us with transportation for our trip, but she also took the time off to come and spend time with our kids.  She did of course spoil them, and they of course loved it.  :)  I truly appreciate her willingness to drop everything to come take care of our babies.  Thanks mom!  The kids had a great time and so did we!  I only wish we could have spent more time with you.  Love you mom!

Ah Lylah...I believe this picture will haunt you for life. :)

Dallas...looks a little like Vegas

It started with a trip planned to Dallas.
We were going with a friend to an Advocare event, we were so excited.  The best part...flying on my mom's tickets at a lower fare.  I mean WHO goes to Dallas in the middle of August?  Really the temperature in Dallas the weekend we were going was 105!  Of course we will get onto a standby seat.

WRONG!

We decided to go Thursday night "just in case" we didn't make the flight the next morning.  When we got to the airport, we were told only 4 people were listed to get on the flight (and we were 3 of them).  So we patiently waited for our name to be called...but to no avail.  So we spent the night in the airport (yes, in the airport) to catch the next flight at 7:00 in the morning.  We listed on the flight, and were one of four (again) to get on that flight, with 8 seats available.  We showed up Friday morning only to find, that 21 (!?!?) people had added their names to the list.  So there we were numbers 22, 23, 24 (or something like that) with only 8 seats available.  We prayed for a miracle, and were bumped to the next flight.  The 12:00 flight had listed 11 people, and was sold out.  It also would then list the 16 +/- people that missed the morning flight.  Needless to say, we weren't getting on that flight either.  And the looks of the rest of the flights were the same.  So we thought, wow, we aren't getting to Dallas.  We tried everything, flying into another city and then to Dallas, we used every Amazing Race trick we had in our arsenal.  But it came down to...we are not going to Dallas.

Our friend could use the ticket at another date, but when were we going to be able to use it in the next 90 days?  We would have to find a sitter (again), Pack (again), Get to Seattle (again).  So we looked at the reader board, saw what flights were within the hour and had opportunity to get to the destination and back...and decided to go to Vegas.

Tim and I went to Vegas on our honeymoon, and stayed at the Mirage.
Well 10 years later, in a round about way we were able to return.

We spent literally 24 hours there and then came home to surprise our littles.  Avarie was super happy we made it back for her birthday dinner.

And we have a great story to add to our journey.

Part 2

I asked Avarie what she wanted to do for her birthday party with Tim's family.  She told me she wanted a Barbie cake.  Then I asked her where she wanted to go for dinner and she told me she wanted to stay home and have macaroni and cheese, fruit salad and BBQ potato chips.  So that is what we did.  Let me tell you though, when Lylah asks me to make a Barbie cake for her when she turns 6, I may just go buy one.

Barbie, my nemesis. FYI, my hand still hurts from frosting this cake.
Some new shades from Nanu and Uncle
Lets just say the girl is happy!
