I FINALLY was able to use my friend Hailey's laundry soap recipe.
It was so much fun to make our own laundry soap, and we have been using it now for a couple of weeks and are loving it. The smell is great and the soap cleans well.
The cost is INSANELY cheap! I spent approximately $9.00 for the above ingredients. I used 1 cup of the washing soda, and 1/2 c borax so I still have MANY more uses in those boxes. The Fels-Naptha soap bar cost $2 and is the only item I will have to purchase again. I was able to get 10 gallons of soap this way. Yes, I said 10 gallons.
Here is the recipe for those curious:
5 gallon bucket (I got one at Home Depot)
4 cups of hot tap water
1 Fels Naptha soap bar
1 cup Arm and Hammer Super Washing Soda
1/2 cup Borax
(I was able to find all of these items at Fred Meyer)
Grate soap bar and add to sauce pan with water. Stir continually over medium low heat until soap dissolves and is melted. Fill 5 gallon bucket half full of hot tap water. Add melted soap, washing soda and Borax. Stir well until powder is dissolved. Fill bucket to top with more hot water. Stir, cover and let sit overnight to thicken. Stir and fill a used clean laundry soap dispenser half full with soap and the rest with water. Shake well before each use.
Optional: You can add 10-15 drops of essential oil. Add once cooled. Ideas: lavender, rosemary, tea tree oil (I used tea tree oil and it worked beautifully).
Yield: 10 gallons
Top Load Machine: 5/8 cup per load (180 loads)
